Biography

James Jali was born in 1981 in Goromonzi, Zimbabwe. Today he lives and works in Tynwald near the capital Harare.
From 1993 to 1995 he attended the BAT Visual Art Studio in Harare. After his diploma he worked as illustrator at Shamu Advertising Studios until 1997, before he concentrated on his artisitc carrer. 
His paintings are loaded with energy – in the colours, in the movements, in the motives. Nothing stands still. People are moving, clouds are moving, cars and bicycles are moving. Even houses and trees seem to be moving and in this way transferring an ever-present restlessness to the viewer.
The works of James Jali have been exhibited many times at the Gallery Delta and the National Gallery (both in Harare).
