MARIAN NYANHONGO

Biography

 

The Nyanhongo family comes from Nyanga, Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe.
Sons and daugthers of Claud Nyanhongo, first generation artist, have become noted stone sculptors themselves. Marian’s sister, Agnes was trained alongside Colleen Madamombe at the National Gallery B.A.T. workshop school.
Marian was employed in the textile industries for some years before she decided to become a full time sculptor. She is a full time sculptor and she is proud of her bold and meaningful stone sculptures. Her work has made a remarkable contribution to stone carving in as far as women are concerned. Marian's work reflects women’s situations in the society, the role they play and their emotions.  …
