Biography

Wonder Luke comes from the Guruve area, like his colleagues Enos Gunja, Ephraim Chaurika and many others.
He came to Tengenenge and met Bernard Matemera, who taught him and inspired him greatly into developing his unique style.
You can see and feel the influence from Bernard, when you see works by the two of them together, and you can see how Wonder Luke went his own ways. Both create rounded shapes and Wonder Luke has perfected his heads of all sizes, with beautiful facial features and softness around them, so you simply have to touch them.
On film he has shown us, how he masters a huge stone into a head with proportions like a classical sculpture from Rome such as Michelangelo’s.
Often he makes a portrait, and recently he has presented us with “My Singing Uncle”, who apparently has a quite large nose.
Wonder Luke works permanently in Ruwa.
