ERNEST THOMAS (1960 - 2021)

Biography

Ernest Thomas worked as an assistant to Nicholas Mukomberanwa for some years in the 1990’es and developed himself as an artist in his own right during that time.

His subject matter is people, mainly women, and often together, showing affection for each other as sisters, mother and child, or newly wed man and woman, as well as a favourite of his, namely mermaids.

As with all students of Nicholas (and with his sons) you very often see characteristically large hands in the sculptures. It is kind of a “trade mark”, which you have earned the right to use from the master himself.

Ernest’s sculptures have a distinct sweet politeness about them, which is very much liked by many.

It is with sadness that we inform you of Ernest's passing earlier this year, 2021. May he rest in peace.
