SHELTON MUBAYI

Biography

Shelton Mubayi tells about himself: “I am a visual artist born 1976 in Chihota Marondera. I partly attended rural school, and then moved to the capital Harare in 1989 and did my school up to O level. 1989 was the turning point in my life as an aspiring artist. This is so because during that early age, I used to watch my father, Sylvester Mubayi, sculpting whilst at the same time trying my own hand using chip-offs.Though I didn’t produce works of good quality, I knew that with such a beginning, I would one day be able to make creative pieces.
I am forever grateful to Sylvester Mubayi, whom I think deserves
the utmost respect. He has been and is an iconic figure and will always be. I am still apprenticed to him.”
